A big thanks to my bro Creamhackered over at Neowin.net for letting me know that Microsoft have released Windows XP Service Pack 2 Beta-1! but at the moment Neowin are being hammered and it's a bit hard to reach them! so until there back up, you can catch IeXbeta.com coverage.

Update: Neowin.net are back up, so click on the above link or Read More. Looks like It's Windows service packs betas day. After Windows Server 2003 SP1 Interim release 1137, It's Windows XP SP2 beta-1 which was just made available to the selected testers at WindowsBeta.

Microsoft welcomes Windows XP Service Pack 2 beta testers in following words:

Welcome to the Windows XP Service Pack 2 Beta
Thank you in advance for your assistance in ensuring that we ship, a solid, secure service pack. Please provide us with your feedback by joining us in the newsgroups and reporting problems as soon as you encounter them. Alongwith the SP2 Beta-1 download, Microsoft has also released Post-Beta Release notes, Service Pack 2 Deployment Guide & Service Pack 2 Hot Fix Deployment Guide as part of documentation. Changes to Functionality in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 were already released few days ago at Microsoft Download Center.

A install survey has also been added to the WindowsBeta website where you can submit one survey for every machine or type of installation you have done with Microsoft Windows SP2 beta-1.

A trained team of product support engineers will provide technical support in designated private newsgroups. This is the only support provided for the beta.

If you have not installed Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP Professional, you need to install only the beta version of SP2 to get all of the updates provided in SP1. If you have already installed SP1, It's recommended that you install the beta version of SP2 without uninstalling SP1.

The file size for SP1 beta-1 is 212.53 MB. It seems that Microsoft is still in process of updating the servers that is why many testers are still not able to download beta-1 from WindowsBeta website. So don't worry if your Download area is still vacant. Check back again to grab the first beta of Windows Xp Service Pack 2.
