Just spotted this bit of info over at AMDZone.
I finally found out at Siggraph the real reason of WHY Windows XP -AMD64 is coming when it is coming. According to a Micro$oft rep, the AMD64 release is a mere "service pack" to the existing Windows XP -64 operating system. This in turn requires the AMD64 "service pack" to follow the normal service pack release schedule. So if this all holds true, expect Service Pack 2 for Windows XP -32 to be released at around the same time that the 64-bit version of XP with AMD64 support is shipping.
