While most people are happy with a working-out-of-the-box Dell, some just don't rest until they have squeezed every last bit of performance out of their rig. When you're disassembling your refrigerator to use the compressor to cool your videocard, or when you catch yourself stealing liquid nitrogen at the lab, you might be one of them. Today we interview the current world record holder of the popular benchmark application 3dmark01 and 3dmark03, micutzu of crazypc.ro. For those who are wondering, he scored 76144 ('01) and 53069 marks ('03), that's more than twice the speed any prebuilt computer can offer you!
We wanted to find out so we had a talk with micutzu of crazypc.ro who currently holds both the 3DMark01 and 3DMark03 World Records. Let me start by asking you about yourself.
[micutzu] My name's Razvan Fatu, I'm 24 and I live in Bucharest, Romania.
How long have you been into OCing?
[micutzu] I first started overclocking in 2002, I guess I like pushing hardware to the limit and beyond a little too much.....
Tell us about your machine.
[micutzu] The machine was put together by me from the ground up with the help of www.senorg.ro. I must admit the EVGA 7900GTX cards overclock extremely well on plain air and stock cooling and the Team Xtreem memory is impressive to say the least. CPU was cooled by a Vapochill LS unit and RAM is benchable at about 580-610Mhz 3-4-3-4 on Bad Axe's FSB1333 strap, this seemed to be the optimal setup so far.
Do you feel that you've maxed it out or is there "more left in it"?
[micutzu] There is still some more tweaking to do and plenty left in this config with better cooling.
Are you planning on the 05 and 06 records?
[micutzu] Those records require alot of raw CPU power, beyond what the E6600 can do with current FSB limit. Plus, let's not forget some of the world's best overclockers already have serious scores in 05 and 06 AND those are not tasks to be done on stock VGA coolers. Thanks for taking the time to respond and congratulations on your accomplishments - holding an overclocking world-record must be pretty cool.
[micutzu] You're welcome and thanks again for the congrats. Indeed it's pretty cool to hold a world record, now I have to think what I have to do to hold on it for as long as possible.....this is the hardest part...... sources: hwbot 3dmark 01 hall of fame hwbot 3dmark 03 hall of fame
