Voltaic Launches New Line of Solar Chargers for Smartphones

Published by

Voltaic Systems, the company that launched the original solar backpack, announces the release of a new line of solar chargers. Each charger features two rugged solar panels that generate up to 4 Watts of power, more than enough to run a smartphone and thousands of other handheld electronics. One hour in the sun will provide about three hours of talktime and four to five hours will fully charge a typical phone.

Amp Solar Charger: a standalone charger folds tight and fits easily in any sized bag.

Fuse Solar Charger: a lightweight way to add solar and battery power to any bag, tent or bike rack. It connects securely in seconds using customizable straps and clips.

OffGrid Solar Backpack: our most versatile and spacious bag. The solar pocket is removable and, like the Fuse, can be attached to other bags or just placed in the sun for more convenient charging.

Converter Solar Backpack: a streamlined backpack for commuting and short trips.

Switch Solar Bag: a versatile day bag, perfect for carrying a camera, phone, and an iPad or Kindle.

The solar panels on each model charge a universal USB Battery which stores power until needed. A full battery pack will charge a phone one to two times. The battery can also be charged from the USB port on a computer.

CEO Shayne McQuade adds “We started off making solar bags in part because we were so disappointed by the functionality of the standalone solar chargers on the market. With these products we hope to transform perceptions about the performance and usefulness of portable solar power.”

Pricing and Availability: The Amp ($99), Fuse ($129), Switch ($129), Converter ($199) and OffGrid ($249) are all shipping with Silver, Charcoal, Green or Orange panels. They are available from and select retailers.
