According to a story posted at DigiTimes VIA Technologies will release another chipset supporting the K7 platform from Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), according to the company. The KT880 chipset, supporting a 400MHz FSB (front-side bus) and dual-channel DDR400 memory, will be the latest and last entry in VIA?s K7 chipset line. Shipments are to begin in late September or early October, the company disclosed. With AMD?s K8 processors expected to be in short supply until early next year, VIA is hoping the new addition will carry sales through until K8 processors become mainstream. VIA?s KT600, its current K7 technical leader, helped July revenues jump by more than 44%, the company said. The KT880 will compete directly with Nvidia?s nForce2 Ultra 400, which supports the same technical specifications.
