After receiving several requests to create a multiplayer map suitable for benchmarking purposes, I set aside a full week to do exactly that and am pleased to announce that the results are finally ready for human consumption. After running some tests we've found that this map (and the benchmarking demo we've created to be used with it) will push most systems about twice as hard as the default single player demo, and thus offers a better example of what to expect from next generation DOOM 3 engine games such as Quake 4 and Prey. It also offers a more accurate guide to multiplayer performance because player shadows are drawn in multiplayer mode, whereas they are absent during single player games.
