A pre-launch sample of Intel's Dempsey CPU and Bensley platform served as a sneak preview of what to expect. Our benchmarks also indicate how the platform will fare against AMD's Opteron 280.
The Dempsey engineering sample processors included in our test system were combined with the Blackford chipset, which will power the next generation of Intel dual CPU systems. The Blackford chipset has a FSB1066 CPU interface, but only a DDR2-533 interface for the new FB-DIMM memory modules. The new FB-DIMMs (fully buffered DIMMs) promise at least three times the bandwidth of conventional registered DDR2 memory when running in a quad-channel configuration.
