Very few successful gaming franchises have had a history as tumultuous as Sonic the Hedgehog. Back in the 90s, the series could rival the Super Mario Bros. franchise in terms of quality, creativity, and popularity, but the jump to 3D graphics proved to be troublesome for Sonic Team.
