With Serviio, you will enjoy support for multiple device profiles allowing it to be tuned to maximize device potential and minimize the lack of media format playback support via transcoding. Serviio is based on Java, therefore, runs on most platforms (Windows, Mac, and Linux), including embedded systems and NAS.
Serviio will stream audio, video (SD & HD), and image files in their native format or be transcoded in real-time, as well as numerous online content sources, including live audio/video streams, RSS feeds, and web page content. It can also extract media files, including local metadata files, embedded metadata tags, online metadata sources, XBMC, Swisscenter, MyMovies, and more.
You also have support for most known playlist formats, subtitles, RAW camera images, automatic renderer detection, per-IP profile assignment, video thumbnails, CD covers, DVD posters, etc.
