Popup Tab Switcher for Chrome makes the process of switching between tabs easy and a little more controllable.

Popup Tab Switcher will remember the order in which your tabs were active and then will allow you to switch between recently active tabs in a fraction of a second without the need of your mouse.

It will show a popup with the last active tab; this can be done via a shortcut (Alt + Y by default). It allows you to cycle through them by holding Alt and pressing Y. By releasing the Alt key, and you will switch to the chosen tab. This is like switching between apps in Windows (Alt + Tab). You can also delegate default switching between tabs by pressing Ctrl + Tab.

Additionally, when you close an active tab, Popup Tab Switcher will route you to the previously active one. The goal with Popup Tab Switcher is to add a little more functionality than Chrome's default behavior, which only activates the nearest tab making it a solid tool for those that find themselves with multiple open tabs during the course of their daily browsing.
