Just heard this on the radio that a Jumbo jet has gone down in NEW YORK again and it's hit four buildings which are on fire in the queens area of New York... Flight 587 of American Airlines, a unit of AMR Corp. crashed in the New York borough of Queens about 9:15 a.m. ET. The Airbus A-300, reportedly with more than 250 people & 9 crew on board, was bound for Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic. Details are sparse, but the plane was taking off from Kennedy Airport when it crashed... There is no evidence this was a terrorist act. Defense, law-enforcement and aviation officials say there was no warning of an attack and no sign this plane was in distress. But out of caution, New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani has closed all New York airports, bridges and tunnels. Security is particularly tight in Manhattan, where many world leaders have gathered for a United Nations session. Eyewitnesses report hearing a pop and seeing one engine fall from the plane. On the ground, firefighters are working on two fronts. They reportedly have the smaller fire under control. American Airlines Hotline: 1-800-245-0999
