PCMark05 Review

Published by

Since our review of PCMark04 back in November 2003, things have changed in the system benchmarking world, due to one major step forward - The introduction of dual-core CPUs. To proficiently test these parts, such as AMD's Athlon64 X2 CPUs, benchmarking using multi-threaded applications or, arguably more realistically, running multiple applications on tandem is the order of the day. Thus, a couple of weeks ago saw the release of a new revision of PCMark, now in its PCMark05 incarnation. Some testing of multi-tasking is obviously going to be the big change this time around, but let's take a look at the benchmark as a whole to see what else is new, and what this revision of the software has to offer.
