OptiKey is designed to assist Motor Neuron Disease (MND) patients with an on-screen keyboard allowing them to interact with Windows computers.

When used with an eye-tracking device, OptiKey's on-screen keyboard allows MND patients to complete tasks, such as email composition, using only their eyes. OptiKey can also be used with a mouse or webcam. Unlike expensive and unreliable Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) products that are difficult to use, Optikey is free, reliable, and easy to use.

OptiKey is good to go right out of the box once you have your eye-tracking device installed and allows selections to be made using dwell selection (pausing on your selection until the red time wheel opens), as well as physical buttons and assistive devices (such as Glassouse, or assistive switches). If you do not have an eye tracking device, you can use OptiKey with a mouse or your webcam. Another useful aspect is any typed text can be directed to be spoken by the program.

OptiKey does work very smoothly during testing via the mouse selection option; we do not have an eye-tracking device or webcam set up for our virtual machine to test that aspect out.
