OpenLoco 25.03 released

Published by

OpenLoco version 25.03 has been released, marking another step forward in its development as an open-source re-implementation of Chris Sawyer's Locomotion, a popular construction and management simulation game focused on running a transport company. OpenLoco is designed to improve upon the original game, akin to how OpenTTD modernized Transport Tycoon and OpenRCT2 enhanced RollerCoaster Tycoon.

Locomotion, created by Chris Sawyer using x86 assembly language, is built on the foundation of the RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 engine. While there are similarities between the two, the engine has undergone significant modifications, leading OpenLoco to operate independently from OpenRCT2.

Recent development efforts have concentrated on re-implementing the user interface (UI) to facilitate better understanding of the underlying data structures. This groundwork is expected to simplify the interpretation and implementation of the game's logic in future updates.

In addition to the ongoing enhancements to OpenLoco, the gaming community continues to explore various tools and guides, such as understanding EasyAntiCheat and optimizing gaming setups on Windows 10 and 11. As OpenLoco evolves, it aims to attract both nostalgic players of the original Locomotion and new gamers interested in transport simulation. The project represents a collaborative effort to preserve and innovate within the genre of transport management games, fostering a vibrant community of developers and players alike
