Taken from VolariGamers: The OpenGL ARB (Architecture Review Board) meeting notes from March 2-3 2004 have been posted today at OpenGL.org. According to the meeting notes, OpenGL 2.0 will be released later this year, at SIGGRAPH 2004. The basic feature list is now established and OpenGL 2.0 should feature the OpenGL Shading Language, new shader extensions as well as other enhancements. XGI Technology was represented at the meeting by Guofang Jiao and Lingjun Chen.

Among the features that are planned on being supported is two-sided stencil (EXT_stencil_two_side) which is already being used in Doom III to draw shadows (Doom III is expected to be released later this year). This technique significantly improves performance by eliminating multiple passes. The EXT_stencil_two_side extension is already supported in nVidia GeforceFX drivers as well as current Volari drivers.
