Noralabs Norascan is a standalone utility to scan your computer for viruses, malware, rootkits, and spyware when other applications fail to remove these threats.

Noralabs Norascan requires installation. An app like this should be portable for techs to take with them or move from computer to computer.

On the first run, you Norascan will download the latest definitions, then await your instructions. On our first run, however, we only had the option to do a quick scan, not the listed full scan.

Noralabs Norascan is simple enough to use but seems to draw a lot of false positives (see our screenshots), so we recommend this app only for advanced users. On a clean installation of Windows 10, 126 false positives were shown, and that's unacceptable. The app has a problem identifying DLL files, and you could render your system inoperable if you remove these. Other places any good antimalware app should be able to spot problems is in the AppData > Local > Temp folder.

One default setting to uncheck is "verify suspicious files after scanning" because that setting will upload every suspicious file to their server wasting time and bandwidth. Once again, this is a problem because of the number of false positives. Speaking of time, we also found the Quick Scan to be, well, not so quick.

Noralabs Norascan might be an option for advanced users to use when all else fails. Beyond that, this wouldn't be on our list of go-to's until they address false positives and make the application portable. We noticed numerous websites have Noralabs Norascan listed with a 4-5 stars rating. We must be missing something.

Noralabs Norascan (barely) made it on MajorGeeks because we believe this could be a handy app for advanced users in a pinch trying to remove malware that other apps won't.
