Nintendo DS Hands On

Gamespy have thrown up their hands-on experience with Nintendo DS handheld console!

Before I get into how and why the DS nudged its way into my heart, lets go over the specs. The prototypes I saw were approximately 7x4x1-inches large. This is probably the only thing I didn't like about the DS: it's definitely not a system that you can easily slip into your pocket, unless you name is Shaquille O'Neil. The handheld unfolds so that one screen is on top of the other. On the left side of the base is the d-pad, select, and start buttons. On the right side are the four action buttons. Shoulder buttons are on the top of the base.

The system will have to forms of wireless communication; it will use an 802.11 WiFi standard and a proprietary Nintendo frequency. The wireless range of the DS is 30 meters, which is approximately 98.42519 feet by my estimation. Game Boy Advance games are accepted at the bottom of the unit, while DS games (stored on SD cards) go in the top. Last but not least, the system has a microphone, which will presumably used to deliver voice and for voice-command games.
