NetHack is an engaging single-player game that allows you to explore the depths of dungeons.
NetHack stands out from other Dungeons & Dragons-inspired games as it encourages players to uncover the intricacies of the dungeon instead of mindlessly killing everything in sight. In fact, killing everything can lead to a quick death. The game generates a unique landscape for each playthrough, with the random number generator providing limitless variations of the dungeon and its inhabitants. Players can choose from different characters, including their race, role, and gender.
In the game, the deity served and supported by the player's character is determined by their role, alignment, character skills, and attributes. This also affects how other monsters react toward the player character.
Once the player character is created, they are introduced to the game's primary objective. The ultimate goal is to retrieve the Amulet of Yendor, which can be found at the lowest level of the dungeon. To successfully complete the game, the player must offer the amulet to their deity. As a reward, the player will gain the gift of immortality and achieve demigod status, also known as "ascending." Along the way, the player must complete several sub-quests, including a quest specific to their character's class.
