Yes, Cnet's News.com reports "Microsoft is prepping a version of MSN Messenger with new features that will be available exclusively to paying subscribers of the MSN 8 online service. "
"MICROSOFT PLANS to offer two versions of MSN Messenger 5, one as part of MSN 8 and another as a separate, stand-alone product. But some of the best new features will only be available to MSN 8 customers, who must pay to subscribe to the service. An additional feature would be available exclusively to Windows XP users. " Contd... After Trillian have launched Trillian pro Microsoft might be next to adventure with MSN Messenger 5 and Explorer 8 with subscribtion according to News.com. Some main features discussed in the article are
For MSN 8 subscribed users :- enhanced parental controls. access to video conferencing (XP only).
and For MSN 5 with MSN 8 subscribtion :- improved address book with the capability of sharing Hotmail and MSN contacts. flagging buddies who are online using a mobile device such as a cell phone. able to run MSN Messenger 5 and be logged in as a separate Passport (Xp only). Browse the Web together.
Only one feature that caught my eye was "Parental control for MSN 5 on subscribtion of MSN 8 Explorer". Which means if ur parents subscribe to MSN 8 and apply parentel controls on ur MSN/Passport ID; It will not only activate on ur home computer but also other PC's from wherever u log on. Haven't Microsoft heard of people creating multiple ID's for different purposes. It would be funny to see somebody falling for this feature.
As hailstorm has failed to catch the IT industry's imagination M$ will really be hoping that this adventure does catch some air if not blow up the competition.
Boy i am waiting for your comments with Lays and coffee in my hand... :)
