Intel Corp. has resumed shipments of its 3.0-GHz Pentium 4 processors, after discovering a glitch that apparently only surfaced in the lab. Intel will provide a BIOS upgrade procedure to OEMs and motherboard manufacturers, who will probably require a few days to verify, test, and deploy the patch, according to an Intel spokesman. Intel engineers noticed the erratum while "stress testing" a "small number" of 3.0-GHz processors in the laboratory, the spokesman said. "Lab stressed units sent incorrect inforation to the rest of the system," the spokesman said. The spokesman declined to comment further when asked to characterize the nature of the glitch or the actual number of processors which were affected. Source: ExtremeTech
