It seems there are two issues with the current Highpoint driver / BIOS release 2.31 for their RAID controllers utilized on Abit motherboards and others. At least some users report a broken System Restore feature in Windows XP and some users also find their harddisk performance lowered may it be RAID or not although Highpoint claims to have improved performance with the current release.
The solution is simple as it can be. Release 2.31 installs a Highpoint specific filter driver named hptpro.sys into your Windows directory. It seems this driver is responsible for the issues mentioned above cause simple renaming of the file to e.g. hptpro.old resolves them. When applied System Restore is working again and harddisk performance is back on par as with previous releases. This has been verified by harddisk benchmarks running SiSoftware SANDRA. Update: The effect on existing RAID arrays has not been tested. Try on your own risk.
