HexChat is a customizable cross-platform IRC (Internet Relay Chat) client based on XChat that allows for multiple simultaneous connections providing you a free option for chatting with users from anywhere in the world.

HexChat's interface is simple and for those that have used Xchat will find it very similar as it is based Xchat's Open Source code. Using HexChat (formerly known as FreaksChat) is relatively easy to set up and use, just choose your connection details when you initially open it and then select your networks. You can quickly join multiple IRC channels, AKA as chat rooms, and you can either communicate publicly or in a one-on-one chat room if you choose.

HexChat includes numerous features like auto-text replace for correcting common typing mistakes, configurable URL handling options, customizable keyboard shortcuts, URL grabbing capabilities, friend and ignore lists. You can also significantly extend its functionality via multiple plugins or scripts.
