DirectShow is a Microsoft Windows multimedia streaming API. A DirectShow graph is a collection of connected multimedia components configured to achieve a particular multimedia processing task (e.g., media playback, capture, or conversion). A DirectShow graph editor such as Microsoft GraphEdit is a test environment and UI for creating and testing DirectShow graphs interactively. Once a graph has been tested in a graph editor, it can be created programmatically in a programming language such as C++ using the DirectShow API.

GraphStudioNext is a fork of RadScorpion's GraphStudio, which stopped updating in 2009. Because of some bugs and missing features, the author has continued it as GraphStudioNext.

GraphStudioNext Features:

Detailed System, Filter, Pin, MediaType information
Reports
Registry modification (add/remove types for filters manually)
Information on registered filters (CLSID, name, file, version, location)
Detection of broken registry entries
Easier graph construction
Support for DVB, DVD, Capture graphs
Inspection of media type formats including header parsing for existing codecs such as H.264, MPEG-2 …
Dumping of media type formats for later analysis

It is also popular for codec users as GraphStudioNext will load your media files into a graphical interface and show you the codecs being used to render them. It will show you every DirectShow codec, filter, and post-processor in-between you and your files.
