Gigabyte In Talks To Acquire Elsa?

DigiTimes reports that Gigabyte Technology is negotiating to acquire Germany-based graphics card maker Elsa, according to sources. Talks have been underway, and initial agreements have reportedly been set, sources added. The acquisition could be finalized as early as late September, according to sources. Gigabyte hopes to gain Elsa?s established brand name in workstation and desktop graphics cards. The acquisition, if completed, would also allow Gigabyte to garner the desktop graphics card orders that Elsa is currently placing at First International Computer (FIC). Both Gigabyte and FIC are currently contract manufacturing Elsa?s desktop graphics cards using chips from ATI Technologies, according to sources. ELSA reportedly has had financial difficulties for the past several years, leading it to sell or cease some overseas operations.
