New, more or less unofficial GeForce 7900 GTO graphics cards from Nvidia have started to pop up in various online retail stores, as we noticed last Friday. These cards have the same cooler and specifications as the GeForce 7900 GTX, but their memory is clocked at 660MHz (1.32GHz effective) instead of 800MHz, and they're selling for around $250 instead of $400+.
Going by an article on Chinese site Coolaler.com, though, these cards might have a fair amount of untapped potential. Out of the box, the article says an MSI GeForce 7900 GTO was able to hit 700MHz core and 700MHz memory speeds. However, after being patched with a BIOS file from an actual GeForce 7900 GTX, the card reached impressive 720MHz core and 860MHz memory speeds?well above the GeForce 7900 GTX spec.
