Facebook Container for Firefox is a free add-on that will allow you to control and quarantine your web activity from Facebook.

With all the revelations in the news about Facebook prying a bit too far into what we do online, even when you are logged out of Facebook, we knew it was just a matter of time before an app like this would be launched. This add-on is an excellent alternative to deleting your Facebook profile since it allows you to control the data that the prying eyes of Facebook can access. This extension efficiently confines your identity into a separate container, which makes it difficult for Facebook to track your activity on other websites via third-party cookies.

When you install Facebook Container for Firefox, it deletes your Facebook cookies and logs you out of Facebook. On your next visit to Facebook, it will open in a new blue-colored browser tab (aka “container tab”). You can log in to Facebook and use it from within that tab. If you either click on a non-Facebook link or navigate to non-Facebook websites via the URL bar, they will load outside the container. You can log in and use Facebook regularly when in the Facebook Container, but clicking any Facebook Share buttons on other browser tabs will load them within the Facebook Container. Keep in mind that utilizing these buttons will pass data to Facebook about the website from which you shared. Additionally, any embedded Facebook comments and Like buttons in tabs outside the Facebook Container will not function. This action blocks Facebook from associating information about your activity on websites outside of Facebook with your Facebook identity.

Also, websites that permit account creation or login via your Facebook credentials will not work correctly. In essence, this is due to the extension being designed to separate Facebook use from the use of other websites; this behavior is expected.
