A few weeks ago a big Windows XP download was been sighted on DELL´s FTP server, the 47 MB download had fixed issues reported in KB 823583 , Availability of a Processor Driver to Support Mobile Processor Power Management Features on Mobile Intel Pentium 4M Processors with Hyper-Threading Technology We were still wondering why this package was that big and [PM] started some investigation. And look what he found: A Windows XP Kernel Update, Build 1240, which is not reported in Microsoft Knowledge Base. Read More for more informations and download
The Update we found contained the following files: ntoskrnl.exe - 1.886 KB - 06/30/2003 - 5.1.2600.1240 ntkrpamp.exe - 1.881KB - 06/30/2003 - 5.1.2600.1240 ntkrnlpa.exe - 1.909KB - 06/30/2003 - 5.1.2600.1240 ntkrnlmp.exe - 1.854KB - 06/30/2003 - 5.1.2600.1240 The inf - file shows us the way to http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=817027, which is not available. We have installed the files on a Pentium 4 with Hyperthreading and a Athlon XP 2400+, both with WinXP Professional and the systems are still stable.
But we don´t know what the files are doing. It´s for shure that this Kernel Update is the newest at the moment, versions before are Build 1228 and Build 1224.
