Stunning Imagery
This Chrome extension offers a stunning visual representation of a total solar eclipse. The perfectly centered image provides a clear and captivating view of the celestial phenomenon. You can see the intricate details of the eclipse, including the Bailey's beads - a sparkling effect caused by the sunlight passing through the lunar valleys - and the Chromosphere, the reddish layer of the Sun's atmosphere visible during the eclipse. It also includes Prominence, a bright, gaseous feature of the Sun's Corona, as well as the inner Corona, the Sun's outer atmosphere that appears as a glowing halo around the Moon during the eclipse. With this extension, you can experience the beauty and wonder of a total solar eclipse anytime you want, right from your browser. - No eclipse glasses are required!

Solar Eclipse Mechanics
A solar eclipse happens when the Moon comes in between the Sun and Earth, casting a shadow on Earth. The shadow consists of two concentric cones: an inner dark shadow known as the umbra and an outer lighter shadow called the penumbra. People on Earth who are within the smaller, central umbra get to see the Sun completely blocked.

Every six months or so, the Earth, Moon, and Sun line up during the eclipse season. This happens when there's a new moon, and the Moon's orbital plane gets closest to the plane of the Earth's orbit. In a total eclipse, the Moon completely covers the Sun's disk.
