DDR5 is the newest memory technology, it features much higher clock speeds than DDR4 manages to reach with lower power consumption than DDR4 due to the voltage regulator being moved from the motherboard to the DIMMs themselves, this allows for simpler motherboard designs but means that they need to be designed to accommodate for this.
