Microsoft failed with the attempt to obtain a provisional order against Lindows.com. In its request with a court in Seattle Microsoft had taken off on the fact that a danger of mistake exists between LindowsOS and Windows. LindowsOS is a Linux based operating system, which is aiming for final compatibility applications written for Windows. In his decision judge Coughenour agreed with the Lindows argumentation. Microsoft could not make clear that Lindows is actually precarious in terms of trademarks. However doubts would exist whether the Windows trademark was legal at all, since words of the general linguistic usage may not be registered as trademarks.
