Just spotted this bit of news over at 3DChipset.com
Looks like ATi has to fix some issues with their drivers not displaying high detail textures in some games. Guru3D has written an article on nVidia's Editor Day 2003 where Epic, Bungie, etc... were present to talk about nVidia's present and future. Looks like ATi needs to fix some "optimizations" with the use of high detail textures in various games. Now I wouldn't consider this really a load of salt as these are "developers" showing the rendering faults, but considering what Valve has done, anything is possible:
