Asteroids is a remake of the 1979 Atari arcade game.Showing my age and wasted youth, this is a game we can talk about. We can't imagine the quarters I spent in the arcade on Asteroids, at least until PacMan came out, so here we go.The game has some hits and misses. It has a background that didn't exist, but the graphics otherwise are pretty close as far as the asteroids, your ship, and the enemy ships. However, there's one big misstep - no thrusting sound and that bothered us.One unique feature is adding scanlines giving the game that retro screen look with some lines going through it. It's a subtle, but effective touch. Click on the third screenshot below to see how it looks.At 1.49 MB and portable, this is an excellent little clone for your collection. Joysticks are also supported. You can run it in a window or full screen. It also has high scores. We really miss the thrust sound, however.
