Angband is a dungeon-crawling roguelike computer game derived from Moria. The game is based on J. R. R. Tolkien's writings, where Angband is the fortress of Morgoth. Angband is similar to other games called rogue-likes which include titles like Nethack, Slash'Em, and ADOM.
In Angband, you play as an explorer seeking riches, and along the way, you must fight monsters in preparation for an epic final battle with Morgoth, the Lord of Darkness. The goal in Angband is to survive 100-floor levels of the fortress Angband to defeat Morgoth - this will not be easy. You begin in a town where you will need to buy equipment before beginning the descent. Once you are inside the maze-like fortress, you will encounter numerous traps, monsters, equipment, and hidden doors. All these found pieces of equipment will help enhance your prowess and your power to defend yourself.
Angband gameplay emphasizes combat and careful resource management, you have health points, and death is final. If you successfully best Morgoth on the 100th floor, the game will continue, allowing you to descend to further floors. All the Angband levels are procedurally generated, ensuring that you enjoy a unique game every time you play.
