Yes, this is just a box, but a special kind of box because it will probably cost more than an average gaming rig.  AMD Threadripper gets a new box AMD is trying new ideas for their enthusiast line of processors by introducing new packaging design for each generation of Threadripper. This packaging is numbered like collectors edition, so it might be a limited edition, we just don't know yet. This packaging will probably be used by 3960X and 3970X processors. AMD currently planning to unveil the new HEDT CPU platform tomorrow.
