A CONFERENCE ON SEMICONDUCTORS has revealed details on Intel's up-and-coming i870 chipset, which can cope with both 32-bit and 64-bit microprocessors
The 870 will use a so-called "scaleable node controller" as well as a DDR memory hub.
But multiple SNCs can be used in the chipset, each of which will support up to four CPUS, while two DDR channels with four modules on each will be able to support 128GB of memory, with an IO hub allowing 3.2GB/S connections to the SNCs
