I've created a fix for a nasty bug in WinXP which seems to affect Abit KT7A users. Symptoms are the computer sitting there during bootup doing nothing for 40-80 seconds, and you can't do anything. Update: Apparently there was a bug in that fix. Users need to redownload cause 3 services need to be stopped for this fix to work.
The problem is caused by the Workstation service, which takes this long to start up and blocks other services from starting. The fix starts up the Workstation service (Which is required for file-sharing) non-blocking, solving the problem. The problem is present on the computers of 3 out of 4 of my friends running XP, and all those affected have KT7A motherboards. I don't know if it affects all KT133A based mobos, or even all Via mobos. All I know is that the problem manifests itself even after a fresh-install of WinXP. More info, and the fix, can be found here: Link to fix page Regards, Guspaz. Note: Warp2Search urges users to take caution if you use this fix. Create a system restore point, check the file for viruses etc...
