After you complete the setup, you are brought to the home screen and notified that files would begin backing up on the first modification, that your files will be backed up on detection of any infections and that you will get daily backup information.

There are two other primary tabs - the Backup Center has a file restore as well as file details and the Decrypt a File section does exactly that should you have an infected file.

The settings tab is worth a minute of your time. You can turn 360 Document Protector on and off here. You can also manage backup and restore paths, expiration date (30 by default), and size limitations. It also has a list of supported document types that have a checkbox, but can't be edited. Supported documents include Doc, Docx, Xls, Xlsx, Ppt, Pptx, and of course, PDF. There is also a "Customize" box under File Protection Rules. There's no explanation, so we assumed it was to add other extensions. We figured *.txt was a no-brainer and we were wrong. Apparently, text files can't be protected or added in as supported.

360 Document Protector is lightweight. During our tests, we found it using 2-4% CPU and 15 MB of memory. This might spike a little during saves, but it more than reasonable. Odds are, no one will know it's running.

360 Document Protector is almost a little misleading - in a good way. Sure, it can protect your documents from ransomware, but it's a clever backup application for your documents. Any business might want this to protect their documents and be sure they're backed up. Just keep in kind, it's not going to save an open document. It's going to wait for a change, meaning you need to save your document to back it up.
