XP Myths - Myths Regarding Windows XP v1.2.8

Huh? What does Norton Ghost have to do with disabling system restore to improve performance?
Mastertech
Why do you insist on posting useless comments?
Mastertech
You have benchmarks to prove this? System Restore is extremely valuable in system recovery and since it does not effect performance in anyway it makes sense to leave it enabled. Reducing the size it consumes is a good idea to save disk space but it does not effect performance.

Apparently you are not aware of what some people believe or frequently recommend. It serves a purpose to those who do not know or believe differently.
Mastertech
It appears to be posted when it is updated.

Yes three new additions relate to spelling corrections? Please, If you don't like it, don't read it. Many other people find it informative. Since you are all knowing, why are you reading Warp2Search to begin with?
Mastertech
You are so full of BS. Any possible Fragmentation due to system restore does not add hours to defragmenting. That is such nonsense. Not to mention where is your proof? Do you have a link to even remotely prove this from a reputable source?

now it is half true ... there are some users that do not know partitions so a 160GB disk will result in 8GB recovery date over time but the better advice here is to tell em to partition their drives ... on the other hand I never experienced system restore to suck performance ... I have disabled it, too but for a different reason ... I use Acronis True Image to make full disk backups, so a 2nd backup is useless for me

being informed about every update to this guide is very much welcome ... I used some of this tweaks quite a while ago and wasted time for them which was way more then it would give back this guide is highly recommended to anybody

There's good info on the site, it's a fine place to read about a lot of commonly bandied about, but useless tweaks. There are a lot of sites peddling a lot of the "tweaks" mentioned. I've come across many a site that STILL peddles the old /prefetch= switch, amongst others.

but not doing so will not cost you anything except the fact that everything will work as normal and you do not need to spend any time with tweaking it since it is useless

Most people don't own Norton Ghost. For the average person System Restore works fine. What does using Norton Ghost over System Restore have to do with the Myth? Nothing.
Mastertech
Yes I already agreeded the space argument is legitimate, I am not arguing that.
Mastertech
I know what you are saying but it doesn't effect performance and that is the point. Disabling it because you don't want to use it is fine but telling people to do it because it effects performance is not true. The Myth is simply that it improves performance and that is the main reason people disable it and tell others to.
