M$ probably wont do anything like this as they could lose customers. Basicially what your saying is that you would need a mainboard with a socket for the OS. That means mainboard makers woyuld have to impliment this extra chip. What happens if they refuse ?? Only other way would be through a PCI card, basically buy the OS on a pci addon card, instead of on CD. As for unique code / licence but still able to upgrade, couldnt happen. Where / how would it know it is the same user / pc even if you put in a whole new system. You could still have activation like we have now that isnt hardware dependant. Maybe it could use a serial number thats inbedded in the OS chip ?? Peav
