I wouldn't mod the installation this way.... there will be cat integrated into XP SP2 last beta had 3.9 in it but remember will you do a slipstream every time ? so if you basically have a working cat in it its fully enough to upgrade then .... no performance gain .... I did not notice any and reports show the same
