The Firefox Update Conspiracy

woo its the lets take a dig at firefox website again... id really love to know how much money ms throw at them for writing this kind of c**p. another possibility is that for people that compile code to get an optimised build. and if he really thinks its to fake a larger download count... what the hell would be the point it would be easier to just fake the count... also there are pleanty of other sites that you can download firefox from that wont add to the counter... or people that download it then install it on multiple machines. the arguments for a larger count are much larger than for a smaller count.

Agreed, it really sucks to download the complete program all the time and have to uninstall the whole previous version to not get any bugs. Just yesterday I had to completely uninstall my 1.0.2 to upgrade to 1.0.3 (delete all my configs and extensions) because redirected downloads stopped working aswell as the popup blocker. 2h wasted to get all the extensions and options work again as they were. NOT funny. Why not simply make patches??? I can also imagine that dial up user (which are still quite a few) are extremely annoyed.

Ahh give me a break :) I'm a dialup user myself. It takes like 20-30 minutes to download Firefox, that's not a pain to anyone on dialup. As I said before, I've got updates from Microsoft which are a similar or even greater size.

20-30 mins for 4 mb??? What the hell are you using? 14.4 baud? 2 Years ago with 64kbit it took me 5-10 mins to download 5mb files and even that annoyed the shit out of me every time.

Opps, sorry. Replied to the wrong message.

What can I say, I'm busy loading over stuff during that time. You're right, it probably is faster than that.

This is a great thread, I needed a good laugh today. Lets face it the world doesn't cater to dial up anymore. Its all broadband baby. Just a fact of life. I think more then likely they just want to avoid the problems that patches can create. I've always just un-installed the old app, installed the new one and my favorites, plugins and extensions were still there and worked fine. Guess I'm just lucky with that.

I still prefer the Mozilla suite (Seamonkey) over Firefox.
