after working for several years as a professional audio technician and recording engineer I have learned that the only truly accurate way of setting up a speaker system properly is either with a Real Time Analyzer or a Scan Analyzer and a calibrated microphone that generates tones from 10-20000khz and allows you to equalize the room out acoustically flat before making any equalizer adjustments to alter the response curve. Furthermore, I don't see any good reason why nobody has came up with software that would enable any user to do an automatic EQ job through the microphone or auxillary inputs on a quality sound card. The biggest expense would be the microphone. I KNOW some of you folks reading this could do it...
