New Nforce 2 Audio Driver
Spear
Just to expand on this, on an A7N8X the sound is supplied by a Realtek ALC650 chip and not by anything from nVidia. The SoundStorm component of the MCP-T only handles Dolby decoding and encoding duties. Realtek are refining these drivers at an unheard of rate. The latest official release 3.47 was only a week or so back with the latest public beta being dated only today 25/8/03. You'll still need nVidias driver for the SoundStorm but there's no need to wait for these mythical 2.83's when you can go straight to the source at Realtek.

Only problem is that driver doesn't work on Deluxe boards from what I've read... It will work only on the A7N8X board not the Deluxe...

It does work on my Deluxe rev 2.0. It replaces nVidias driver but leaves the SoundStorm driver in place. The nForce audio control panel no longer works but a replacement from Realtek is provided.

Probably, those C-Medias are very common on Intel boards. The original nForce 2 design suggested a more expenseive Sigmatel chip but the board designers went for the cheaper Realtek option.

That's right..there is a REASON not to use Realtek's drivers if you have the MCP-T version of nForce2 chipset. I do and installed these and found out I was no longer able to get any sound because my PC is hooked up to my receiver with only one wire(s/pdif out). Why use three wires when one does the job? Besides, nVidia's control panel is much cooler :)

Well I tried those drivers and I have the A7N8X Deluxe and the driver installed fine but I had an exclamation mark on another. I un-installed the exclamationed driver and re-installed the nvidia one and the two worked together the Realtek and Nvidia... But. I too use a single line from the board to my speaker system and with the Realtek driver my 5.1 speaker system would no longer work except two speakers and it wasn't recieving Dolby Digital signal anymore. Anyway I don't just want a NEWER driver I want one that works without all the pops, repeats, static etc. I have yet to find one. I also made the mistake by forgetting when posting that the audio driver in 2.45 is 3.48 and not 2.48 that was my mistake which would make this driver the 2.83 older anyway if it did exsist. Somewhere along the line I did have a driver that took all the bad noise away on my version 1.0 board but I can't find it and actually deleted it when I got my 2.0 board... I can't remember what driver set it was from or version I thought it was a 3.38 but can't find that anywhere on the net only the 3.37??? Thanks for all the replies, I'll look closer next time before I post, but I STILL NEED A BETTER WORKING DRIVER...

I also got the same problem with my microphone not working with the realtek drivers. I installed Windows Vista Ultimate X86 and it installed realtek 97 drivers...sound is cool but microphone not working. Anyone got any solutions to this at all? (Got Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe mobo using BIOS 1006) Thanks in advance
