New Consoles Ruin PC Gaming

I wouldn't get too upset over it. Most of what is negative about this has already happened - shoddy ports from console to PC, with no consideration of the higher power of the PC vs today's console, no consideration in reworking the UI to suit a mouse, lack of configurability, and terrible controls. It seems that the next generation of consoles will hold the edge for 6 months or so on graphical ability (though being honest, if you restricted your PC to 800x600, there probably won't be THAT much difference), but there are two things working in favour of PC gamers. Firstly, games that work on console don't always work great as PC titles, and vice versa. Can you imagine playing Tekken on a keyboard (yuck), or an FPS on a joypad (double yuck)? The fact is that when it comes to certain genres, FPS, simulations etc, consoles just cannot begin to compete with the PC, at least without a serious rethink of the way they work. Consoles are great for fighting games, driving games, sports games, and playing with your friends, but when it comes to serious solo and online gaming, there's really nothing so far that's been able to realistically compete with the PC. I find that on the whole, console games cannot hold my interest unless I'm playing with friends (preferrable with beer involved), and the other side of that coin is that I can't really picture my friends sat around my desk in my office watching me play games, and the alternative is to have different computers for a LAN party type setup, which really isn't as social as console gaming, where you tend to sit on the same couches. As I mentioned, if you believe the hype, consoles (even in their limited 800x600 world) will have the edge on PCs graphically for a short time, but ultimately, it's always been true that new things that really push the envelope always come out on PC first. The newest wave of FPS games is clear evidence of this, and why would Doom 3 or Half-Life 2 come out on PC first? Because with the console, developers are being forced to work with 4 and 5 year old hardware, which simply is not as up to the task as modern gaming PC rigs. Developers have to rely on a lot more trickery and extremely clever programming to pull off a game like Doom 3 on the X-Box, whereas on the PC, with the latest game development APIs and bleeding edge hardware, it's a lot easier (though the PC does present its own challenges, with multiple hardware configurations in particular). one of the biggest problems for PC users are game devellops who desing games for console first and then port it to PC without using their braines resulting in an absolutely out of date game with extremely ugly graphic absolutely useless menus and controls and extreme slowness on high end PC thank god Unreal is developped on PC first in 95% console ports suck ass just look at driv3r WTF is that ?!?!?! game for 1€ make more fun then this shit

One thing is for sure... i'll not buy another hi-end video card before 2007. The hi-end cards cost about the same (or more) as those videogames and this time they are saying that the next generations of graphic cards are way below the new videogame standards! And 64 bit gamming better = Lie (an ugly one) Ok, i give up, i'll not upgrade my computer until it's worth it. so, i'll stick to a cheap videogame until the PC hardware gets better.

The new consoles all have USB ports as far as I can tell. Before that you could connect a mouse to consoles already, and I think even keyboards. I doubt this wont be possible with the new ones. also at least the xbox360 (dunno if the ps3 too) supports hdtv, which is quite a bit higher than 800x600. Though, I thought console resolution was 720x576? I think pc gamers are doomed in the future. consoles become more and more like a pc, and even more powerful. developers dont have to deal with piracy nearly as much as on the pc and they dont have to worry about incompatibilty, since the consoles are all the same. I highly doubt that pc gaming has a future in long term. But when consoles (and games for them) are getting as good as pcs, I dont really bother. Just buy a console and a monitor switching box and you can switch between your pc and console. Maybe the pc will even become obsolete sometime with a console if you dont do anything else than surf the internet, etc.

I thought I read that cheats in online games are possible on consoles too...

of course.. mostly exploits though, because cheating would require some programming skill.
