Mice - USB vs PS/2
Mmm_Beefy
i agree, i went back to my old ball mouse for games, and havnt been disappointed. its deff worth the try, ball mice can be had for dirt cheap.

I think its bull.. 125hz is more than enough. and theres no input lag at all on my mx700. Plus youll need to clean out the ball, and the internals if you want maximum precision. But its totally your own opinion.. hell some people even like those mice with the balls on top. bleh.

I belive you have missed the point of this article, its got nothing to do with ball mice vs optical. As far as that goes, ball mice is a thing of the past... period. Less accuracy, more cleaing. :) This article is about PS/2 vs USB (not PS/2 vs USB mice), basically that there is no way to increase the refresh rate of the USB connection. There is however a way to increase the PS/2 one and as PS/2 also takes less CPU power (very slight in either case but still...) there is no upside to connecting a mouse to the USB port. The article is right in the statement that USB mice usally use 125hz, however connecting a USB mouse to a PS/2 port using a converter (usally supplied with the mouse) this can be boosted to 200hz as described in the article.

no i didnt miss the point of the article at all, i went back to my ps2 ball mouse, as thats what i wanted to do, and noticed accuracy was improved... greatly, i got crys of Aimbot all night on a couple of my usual servers because of that. one thing that always happened with my usb optical mice (whether plugged into the ps2 via adapter or into USB) if i moved the mouse fast enough it would look either strait up or strait down. i tried many diff mice, and in the end the only one that didnt do that very annoying thing.. was my old ps/2 ball mouse... THATS why i advocated the ball mouse ps2 version... as for cleaning... psh i keep my mouse pad clean, i maybe have to clean my ball mouse twice a month if that... ever have hairs and dirt get into the "eye" socket of the optical mice?:)
Mmm_Beefy
heh, i have a few times, just one small hair in just the right place and it would cause it to skip.. which can be frustrating in an fps:) like i said, i dunno why, but this old ps/2 ball mouse i have just works better than the logitech i had, and some of the others i tried at friends house. at least if something happens to this mouse i can go get another for 5 bucks:)

Its true and there is no denying that ball mice still are much more accurate than optical (sadly). especially those high dpi ones. turn up the sensitivity all the way on your optical mouse and you wont be able to aim perfectly anymore, it will even skip some pixels on the desktop. but I still changed to an optical and had to adapt to a lower sensitivity, since my ball mouse would need cleaning at least once every week (razer boomslang). I got tired of that. now that I am used to the lower sensitivity I think my mx500 is very nice. I would NEVER get an wireless one, tho.

Were talking about powergamers here, duh. Human reaction times are pretty even (around 220ms or so being the average). Now, if you face an oponent that has only a few ms less reaction time than you, those 75hz will give you enough to beat him again. So if you go around a corner and run right into him, your chances of killing him first before he does, will be much higher. If you use a cable mouse and he uses a wireless mouse you will have an even larger advantage. all in all your reaction time will be about 10 ms or more under his. and that WILL save your life in more than one situations. trust me.
