If the L2 tweak is anything like the one in Win2k, it only works for Pre-PIII cpu's. It won't have any effect on anything newer including both AMD and Intel chips...

I'd agree, my PII laptop responded to the L2 tweak with 10% increase in ram speed. My thunderbird desktop machine showed no change.

Yep, the first reg tweak only has an effect on the old style mainboards that had cache onboard. All new systems have the cache on the CPU and it is used fully whether XP wants it to or not.

The second tweak should only have an effect on CPUs that have a hardware prefetch. These include the Palomino based Athlon CPUs (Athlon4, AthlonXP, Athlon MP, Morgan-based Durons), Pentium 4 chips, and possibly motherboards using the nForce chipset. Those of you with Pentium 3 CPUs, or ThunderBird based Athlons, are out of luck.

Perhaps then, the post is not referring to hardware data prefetch. Unless, of course, you're running on an nForce based motherboard?
