Intel Prescott Processors Won't Fit Any Motherboard Available Today

Well don't forget that clawhammer is 64 bit too. I am not talking about Itanium/Itanium 2 :). They are obviously different from existing pentium chips socket wise. We are talking about upgrading the line of existing 32 bit processors hehe. Oh well. It's no news.

This is a nasty bit of news if 'completely' true. Some of you may have noticed that certain motherboard manufacturers have now removed "Future Prescott Processor Compatible" from their specifications of 865 and 875 boards. I would not blame Intel. Sure, part of it is business, but there are logical and sensible reasons for changing the specs. The fact that AMD stuck with one socket for so long is amazing. What is annoying is if motherboard manufacturers and vendors exploited a rumor for future compatibility to sell their wares. If they are to use such facts to leverage their products, they better know what they are talking about. It is not the consumer's responsibility to know better than the advertising vendor.
