What happened to talks of, 'running on DX6 hardware/TNT2' ... Ok so the TNT sounds a bit far-fetched, but what about the 'not-so-bad' crowd of GF2/GF3 users? I thought the game-engine was supposed to be very scalable that in fact when you run middle-ware hardware it will scale the visuals down a notch so that you can get at least a semi-playable framerate. I'm suprised these cards didn't do so well. Maybe they maximized the eye-candy inside the game? What I would REALLY want to see is, how a GF3 is going to perform in this game, will the flexible-engine help at all? Because right now, judging from these scores, the game would run absolutely horribly on a 1.33GHz PC w/ a Vanilla GF3 (*wink*), unless the 'engine-optimizations' where to miracuosly come in and save the day! I sure hope the game will run of middle-range PCs. Cuz most of the people playing HL and CS have somewhat crappy PCs, ain't that right? ;o I'm sure many of them will want to pick up the game, and I don't think Valve would want to dissapoint, everybody knows they like to make their fan-base happy...
Valve recommends running geforce fx 5200 and 5600 cards in dx8 mode in order to get playable frame rates. Man, so forget about running a GF3 w/ HL2. So much for, 'game is scalable and should run on a TNT2'. Although we can't be *absolutely* SURE untill the game actually ships and we can all test it. :) Anyway, I forgot to mention that I've won an ATi Radeon 9800 PRO 128MB OEM from a Will Rock Tournament. :D My CPU is going to drag me down, but see, I'm not a very image quality-conscious person. I run most of my games @ 800x600 anyway for the sake of a decent framerate. Gameplay comes firt. Visuals second. Anyway, bring on HL2! :D Valve, release it via Steam if you have to! Don't succumb to the evils of Vivendi!
And the first drop of blood is spilt in what to be the bloodwar. Stalker and Doom 3 will be the same, but the other way around (pro-nvidia). Soon we must buy TWO cards to be able to play the games. Only the end customer gets harmed.
Thank God I didnt choose "the way it was meant to be played". Thank God, I chose my (now even more) precious 9700 pro over the FX line (5800 was NviDia's best when I bought my ATi) God forgive t[H]em, for they know not of what they $ay.. So let the show begin !!! Haha its all so damn funny ! But I am really, sorry for the people out there that were disinformed and went out and gave their hard earned euros and dollars to a company that cheats its own customers.
lol so nice to see the 5900 ad on anandtech's page with this review "The critics have spoken" "When it comes to speed, This card is currently unbeatable" i laughed my ass off

Shame on you nvidia.
