GeForce FX and Half-Life 2: DirectX 8 only?

If it doesn't visually effect the game in any way, then no, it wouldn't be. If on the other hand it did so by detecting the application running & disabling certain features or effects, or replacing shaders with a "similar" one with worse visuals then, yes, that "is" worth making a big deal over. On a related note - ATi better optimising their OpenGL is no "big deal", NVIDIA did the exact same. My friend had a GeForce 3 & hadn't updated the Drivers in a LONG time. Doom 3 was unplayable basically, I updated him to 61.77 & guess what, perfectly playable.

Funny how some guy with a negative IQ can tell what intelligence is. :P

Amen. Had 3 ATI cards (8500, 9800pro and a x800pro for a short time) plus 2 somewhere in the 90s and they were always crapshit (the drivers). it is truly so that they fix 5 mainstream games with each new version and break at least 30 other games that maybe arent that common. I always, repeat, ALWAYS got ATIs foot in the face when I got a new game that wasnt mainstream at all. They cant even get the mainstream ones right. and then those fanboys defending their deity with shotguns and abrams tanks, even if they sound as stupid as stupidity itself. But what did someone say a few days ago: To each his own. :)

That's because they aren't the new, yet-to-be-released Drivers (Sigh).
