I recently aquired a Gainward GF4 ti4400, is there any advantage that this control panel has over the standard one & rivatuner?

Nope, except you can enable the special Golden Sample feature.

...isn't the Golden Sample feature just to clock it up a bit to a preset? (I'm at 300/702, a bit better than the GS setting methinks. ;) )
